Why is it important for Christians to understand both justification and sanctification?

Answered in 1 source

Understanding both doctrines is crucial for grasping the fullness of salvation and the transformation that accompanies faith in Christ.

Justification and sanctification are distinct yet inseparable aspects of salvation. Justification refers to God declaring a sinner righteous through faith in Christ's atoning work, thus removing guilt. Sanctification, on the other hand, involves the believer being made holy and set apart for God's purpose, which occurs as they grow in faith and obedience. Recognizing both doctrines helps Christians appreciate the fullness of their salvation; they are not only declared righteous (justified) but are also transformed (sanctified) to reflect God's holiness. This dual understanding empowers believers to live in light of their new identity in Christ, encouraging growth and a continual reliance on God's grace throughout their spiritual journey.
