Why is it important for Christians to understand election?

Election refers to God's sovereign choice of certain individuals for salvation before the foundation of the world, as seen in Ephesians 1:4. This doctrine assures believers that their salvation is not based on their merit but solely on God's gracious will. Paul writes in Titus 1:1 that his ministry is 'according to the faith of God's elect.' This indicates that the church is comprised of those whom God has chosen, which brings great assurance and comfort. Recognizing that it is God who initiates and completes our salvation helps to foster humility among believers, as we understand that we bring nothing to our salvation except our need for it.
