Why is it important for Christians to understand that sin is within?

Understanding that sin is within us—rather than just in our actions or surroundings—impacts how we approach our relationship with God. However, Scripture teaches that every person is conceived in sin and, therefore, inherently sinful (Psalm 51:5).
