Why is it important for Christians to understand the eternal consequences of their actions?

Answered in 1 source

Understanding eternal consequences encourages believers to seek God’s mercy and live according to His will.

In the parable of the rich man and Lazarus, the rich man’s actions in life had dire eternal consequences. After his death, he cried for mercy but found none, highlighting the urgency for individuals to seek God's mercy while alive. Once death occurs, one cannot change their spiritual state; desire for mercy becomes futile. This truth serves as a wake-up call for Christians, reminding them of the urgency to live by faith and grace, actively pursuing holiness and sharing the gospel to guide others toward Christ.
