Why is it important for Christians to understand the nature of their righteousness?

For Christians, understanding the nature of righteousness is essential as it shapes our identity and relationship with God. The righteousness that saves us is not ours but is ascribed to us through faith in Jesus Christ. This insight is paramount in combating the natural tendency to establish righteousness based on our deeds, which ultimately leads to failure and despair.
