Why is it important for Christians to understand the significance of the law?

Answered in 1 source

Understanding the significance of the law helps Christians recognize their sinfulness and need for Christ's redemptive work.

The law plays a crucial role in the life of a Christian as it serves to expose sin and reveal the holiness of God. Romans 3:20 states, 'by the law is the knowledge of sin.' Without the understanding of God’s commandments, individuals remain unaware of their sinful state. The plagues demonstrate how Moses, representing the law, confronts the bondage of sin. Just as the law reveals what one is in bondage to—uncleanness, corruption, and ultimately death—it also points to the need for a Savior. The law not only condemns but also sets the stage for the grace and mercy found in Christ, who fulfills the law's demands on behalf of sinners.
