Why is it important for Christians to understand their inability to stand before God?

Answered in 1 source

Understanding our inability to stand before God emphasizes our need for Christ and His grace in our salvation.

Recognizing our utter inability to stand before God in our own righteousness is vital for Christians as it brings us to the heart of the Gospel. This realization aligns with the Westminster Confession of Faith’s teaching on the depravity of man, reminding believers that all our righteousnesses are as filthy rags (Isaiah 64:6), and thus we cannot hope to earn standing before a holy God. The acknowledgment of our weakness leads us to understand the necessity of grace through faith in Christ's redemptive work. When we grasp our need for a Savior, we are more inclined to trust in Jesus’ righteousness as the only acceptable covering for our sins, and through Him, we confidently approach God.
