Why is it important for pastors to preach the Word?

Answered in 1 source

Preaching the Word is essential as it is God's chosen means to communicate His truth and bring about salvation.

The proclamation of Scripture is fundamental to the role of a pastor. As Paul instructs Timothy in 2 Timothy 4:2, a pastor must preach the Word, being ready both in season and out of season. This includes reproving, rebuking, and exhorting with all longsuffering and teaching. Preaching the Word is not only for the initial conversion of the lost but also for the continued sanctification and growth of believers. This is because only through the preaching of the gospel of Christ can people come to faith and understanding of their relationship with God, as emphasized in Romans 10:17: 'So faith comes from hearing, and hearing through the word of Christ.' Pastors must faithfully deliver God’s message rather than their own ideas or biases.
