Why is it important not to offend God's children?

Answered in 1 source

Offending God's children is viewed as an offense toward God Himself and carries serious consequences (Matthew 18:5-6).

In verses 5 and 6 of Matthew 18, Jesus clearly states that whoever receives a little child in His name receives Him, while those who offend one of these little ones face dire consequences. The implication is that our actions toward others are not separate from our relationship with Christ; to offend or harm those He has called is to harm Christ Himself. This teaching is rooted in the reality that God's children are precious to Him, and as believers, we are called to protect, support, and serve one another. The call to unity and love among believers is continuous throughout Scripture, emphasizing that how we treat the least among us reflects our understanding and acceptance of the grace afforded to us by Christ.
