Why is it important that there is only one God?

Answered in 1 source

The emphasis on one God highlights His sovereignty and the truth that all others are false idols (1 Timothy 2:5).

The doctrine of the one true God is foundational to the Christian faith because it asserts His sovereignty over all creation. In 1 Timothy 2:5, it is noted, 'For there is one God and one mediator between God and men, the man Christ Jesus.' This exclusivity distinguishes the God of the Bible from the many gods worshiped in various cultures, reinforcing the truth that every other deity is a fabrication of human design. Recognizing God as the only true deity propels believers into a relationship with Him rooted in truth, worshiping Him in spirit and in truth (John 4:24), and it also compels Christians to share the message of salvation through His Son, Jesus Christ, as the only way to meet Him.
