Why is it important to abase ourselves when approaching God?

Answered in 1 source

Abasing ourselves before God emphasizes our need for His mercy and grace.

When we come to God, particularly in times of trouble, it is crucial to approach Him with humility, recognizing our position as beggars in need of His grace. The psalmist exemplifies this attitude by pleading with God and asking Him not to hide His face during affliction. This reflects the understanding that we do not demand anything from God; rather, we seek His mercy and intervention in our lives. Humility acknowledges our unworthiness and dependence, which opens the door for God to show His lovingkindness toward us. In our lowly state, we find the assurance that God is near to the brokenhearted and saves the crushed in spirit.
