Why is it important to affirm that Christ is God?

Answered in 1 source

Affirming Christ's divinity is crucial for recognizing His authority and the efficacy of His redemptive sacrifice.

Understanding Christ as God is foundational for the Christian faith. If Christ is not God, then His atoning sacrifice loses its significance, rendering salvation and hope for humanity unattainable. The sovereignty of Christ as God implies that His will cannot be thwarted, and His redemptive work is secure for His people. In denying His divinity, one undermines the entire gospel message and the assurance of salvation. As Hebrews 1:3 states, Jesus sat down at the right hand of the Majesty on high after purging our sins by Himself, illustrating that only God could accomplish such a monumental act of redemption. Thus, recognizing and affirming Christ as God instills a proper reverence and reliance on His power and promise.
