Why is it important to be cautious of false teachers?

Answered in 1 source

Being cautious of false teachers is crucial because they can mislead believers away from the truth.

The Scriptures repeatedly warn against false teachers, who can lead the faithful astray from genuine doctrine and the gospel. The Lord Jesus Christ himself emphasized this danger in Matthew 7:15, stating, 'Beware of false prophets, who come to you in sheep's clothing but inwardly are ravenous wolves.' These false prophets often preach what is pleasing to the ears of the unsaved, neglecting the weighty matters of justice, mercy, and faith which Christ emphasized in Matthew 23:23. Ignoring these warnings can result in spiritual peril and the loss of essential truths that define the Christian faith, ultimately moving believers away from the assurance and hope found in Christ.
