Why is it important to beware of deception in the church?

Answered in 1 source

It is crucial to avoid deception in the church to ensure we remain faithful to biblical truths and the gospel.

The warning of Christ to 'take heed that no man deceive you' stresses the need for vigilance among believers against false teachings that pervade the church today. There is an alarming spread of false doctrines and interpretations, including distortions of the Gospel and misrepresentation of what it means to follow Christ. For instance, teachings such as Arminianism dilute the grace of God by proposing a free will salvation, which undermines the biblical truth of God’s sovereignty and election. Hence, knowledge of Scripture must guide believers to discern truth from error, as 2 Timothy 4:3-4 cautions about a time when people will turn away from sound doctrine.
