Why is it important to receive God's messengers?

Answered in 1 source

Receiving God's messengers is equivalent to receiving Christ Himself and reflects our relationship with Him.

Paul argues that how believers treat and receive God's messengers directly correlates with how they view and receive Christ. He emphasizes this relationship by stating that receiving him was akin to receiving an angel of God. When believers respond positively to the truth proclaimed by messengers, it indicates their heart's alignment with Christ. In rejecting or dismissing the messenger, they risk turning away from the gospel itself (Galatians 4:14). The importance of this truth cannot be understated in sovereign grace theology, which celebrates the preaching of the gospel as the means by which God draws His people to Himself.
