Why is it important to study Scripture in avoiding deception?

Answered in 1 source

Studying Scripture is crucial as it equips believers to discern truth from error and to confront false teachings.

In order to avoid deception, Paul instructs believers to diligently study Scripture. As mentioned in his letters, understanding the Word of God allows Christians to rightly divide truth from falsehood and enables them to identify false teachings that may sound plausible but lead away from Christ. The Bereans are noted for their example of checking Paul’s teachings against Scripture (Acts 17:11). This process fosters a community of accountability, where believers can encourage one another in the truth and guard against the manipulative interpretations prevalent today.
