Why is it important to think not of ourselves highly?

Answered in 1 source

The Bible instructs us to not think of ourselves more highly than we ought, as humility is essential in our relationship with God and others.

Romans 12:3 cautions, 'For I say through the grace given unto me, to every man that is among you, not to think of himself more highly than he ought to think; but to think soberly, according as God hath dealt to every man the measure of faith.' This reminder serves as a vital aspect of the Christian life. When we elevate our self-worth beyond its rightful place, we risk falling into pride and self-righteousness. A proper view of oneself is rooted in recognizing our total dependence on God's grace and mercy, affirming that we are what we are solely due to His grace. Such humility not only fosters personal growth but also acknowledges His supremacy in every aspect of our lives.
