Why is it important to understand our depravity as humans?

Answered in 1 source

Understanding our depravity is crucial for recognizing our need for salvation and God's grace through Jesus Christ.

The acknowledgment of our depravity is vital in the journey of faith. It helps us see ourselves clearly—as sinners in need of a Savior. The Bible teaches that 'the heart is deceitful above all things' (Jeremiah 17:9), which calls us to confront the true nature of our hearts. In recognizing our leprous condition like Naaman, we become aware of our utter helplessness and the necessity to rely solely on God’s grace for cleansing and redemption. This awareness also leads us to gratitude for the grace extended to us through Christ, who justifies the ungodly and reconciles us to God. Embracing our depravity ultimately drives us to true faith and worship.
