Why is it important to understand our dual nature as Christians?

Answered in 1 source

Understanding our dual nature helps us navigate spiritual struggles and rely on Christ's grace.

Recognizing that we possess both a sinful nature and a new righteous nature is vital for Christians. It allows us to contextualize our struggles and not be deceived by them. As Paul mentions in 1 John 3:9, the seed of God abides in us, meaning we have a new ability to resist sin. However, acknowledging our sinful nature helps us remain humble and reliant on God’s grace. It is a serious misconception among believers to think that once reborn, they will no longer sin; this false expectation can lead to despair. Instead, understanding that we are 'always just and always sinful' enables us to cling to Christ as our source of hope and strength in the ongoing battle against sin. This faithful reliance positions us to grow in holiness while embracing the truth of our salvation.
