Why is it important to understand that we are dependent on Christ?

Answered in 1 source

Understanding our dependency on Christ is crucial as it reveals our own inadequacy and the necessity of His grace for salvation.

The acknowledgment of our dependence on Christ is foundational to a correct understanding of the gospel. Paul expresses his own wretchedness in Romans 7, illustrating that he recognizes his inability to achieve righteousness on his own. This understanding leads to an appreciation for grace; salvation is entirely dependent on Christ’s work and His righteousness. We are like vessels filled with sin until Christ fills us with His righteousness, ensuring that we cannot take credit for our standing before God. The importance of Christ as our sole source of salvation is paramount for believers as it shifts the focus from self-reliance to complete reliance on Him.
