Why is it important to understand that we cannot come to Christ on our own?

Answered in 1 source

Recognizing our inability to come to Christ highlights our need for His grace and power for salvation.

The sermon emphasizes that just like the paralyzed man in Mark 2, who needed others to bring him to Jesus, we also cannot approach Christ in our own strength. Scripture reiterates that we are born spiritually crippled and unable to come to Him without His enabling grace. This understanding drives us to despair of our own efforts and to rely solely on Christ's power to save. It showcases the beauty of sovereign grace, where salvation is entirely an act of God, not a result of human works or wisdom.
