Why is it important to understand the distinction between the Son and the Holy Spirit?

Answered in 1 source

Understanding the roles of the Father, Son, and Holy Spirit is essential for a complete knowledge of God's plan of salvation.

The relationship between the Father, Son, and Holy Spirit is foundational to the Christian faith. Each person of the Trinity plays a distinct role in the work of salvation. The Son, Jesus Christ, incarnates and accomplishes the redemptive work through His death and resurrection. The Holy Spirit, however, applies this salvation to believers, revealing the truth of God's grace and prompting belief in the heart. When one speaks against the Holy Spirit, they reject the very means by which they are drawn to Christ and fail to acknowledge the truth of the gospel. This understanding deepens our appreciation of God's comprehensive plan for redemption and the interdependence of the Trinity.
