Why is it important to understand the righteousness of God?

Answered in 2 sources

Understanding God's righteousness is crucial because it reveals our need for Christ's atoning sacrifice to be justified before Him.

The righteousness of God is essential for understanding salvation. Romans 3:22 teaches that the righteousness of God is revealed and is given to all who believe. Since all have sinned (Romans 3:23), we cannot attain this righteousness through our works; hence, we must rely on Christ's righteousness. The realization that we fall short of God's glory leads to our acknowledgment of our need for Christ, who fulfills all righteousness on our behalf, as evidenced in 2 Corinthians 5:21, where He became sin for us to impute His righteousness to us.
