Why is it impossible for humans to fulfill the law perfectly?

Answered in 1 source

Humans cannot perfectly love God and their neighbors due to sin's prevalence and the law's divine standard.

The requirement to love God with all one's heart, soul, strength, and mind, as well as one's neighbor as oneself, represents God's perfect standard, and is articulated in Luke 10:27. Jesus confirms that no human can fully achieve this due to our sinful nature. Romans 3:23 states, 'For all have sinned, and come short of the glory of God,' indicating our consistent failure to meet God's standards. This reality unveils the necessity for a Redeemer, who can fulfill the law on our behalf. The scriptures reveal that while the law sets the perfect standard, it also exposes our inability to attain righteousness through our efforts. Thus, understanding our limitations should lead us to Christ, who perfectly received the law and offers us grace.
