Why is it necessary for the Holy Spirit to regenerate us?

Answered in 1 source

The Holy Spirit must regenerate us because we are dead in our sins and unable to come to God on our own.

In John 3, Jesus explains that a person must be born again to enter the Kingdom of God. This new birth, or regeneration, is the work of the Holy Spirit. Ephesians 2:1 states that we were dead in our trespasses and sins, indicating that apart from the Spirit, we are utterly incapable of believing or repenting. The Holy Spirit imparts new spiritual life to the believer, enabling them to see and appreciate the glory of Christ and His righteousness. Without this regenerating work, no one can come to faith or fulfill the demands of the Gospel. The Holy Spirit's regenerative power is integral to the overall process of salvation, making it essential for a sinner to be born again.
