Why is it necessary to be slow to wrath when hearing God's Word?

Answered in 1 source

Being slow to wrath helps us receive God’s Word with meekness, conducive to spiritual growth and understanding (James 1:20).

In James 1:20, it states that 'the wrath of man worketh not the righteousness of God.' When we hear God's Word, it may challenge our beliefs or reveal our sins, prompting defensive reactions. However, approaching God's Word with a mindset that is slow to anger allows us to absorb its truth without hindrance. Anger can distort our understanding and result in rejecting the life-giving message meant for our benefit. It's crucial that we cultivate a posture of humility and receive the Word with a meek heart to experience its transformative power.
