Why is it necessary to have God as our refuge?

Answered in 1 source

Having God as our refuge is essential because without Him, we are exposed to eternal danger and condemnation.

The necessity of having God as our refuge stems from the reality of sin and the eternal consequences that follow. Man, in his natural state, is under condemnation due to sin and the law's demands. This law, as outlined in James 2:10, indicates that breaking even one part results in total guilt. Thus, without a refuge in God, humanity faces the terrifying prospect of eternal judgment. God provides the only true shelter from this condemnation through Christ, whose atonement satisfies divine justice and offers peace.
