Why is it necessary to view ourselves as lowly before God?

Answered in 1 source

Viewing ourselves as lowly is necessary because it aligns with the truth of our sinfulness and positions us to receive God's grace.

Seeing ourselves as lowly before God is a realistic acknowledgment of our sinful nature and total dependence on His grace. Romans 12:3 advises believers not to think of themselves more highly than they ought but to think soberly. This self-assessment cultivates a genuine humility that recognizes that apart from Christ, we can do nothing and are fundamentally unworthy of God's favor. In Micah 6:8, God calls His people to walk humbly with Him, indicating that humility is integral to living in accordance with His will. Embracing a lowly view allows us to truly value Christ's sacrifice as our only righteousness, as it is only when we are nothing that Christ can be seen as everything.
