Why is it said that few will enter the kingdom of heaven?

Answered in 1 source

Jesus teaches that few will enter the kingdom because the way is narrow and requires perfect righteousness.

In Matthew 7:13-14, Christ emphasizes that 'wide is the gate and broad is the way that leadeth to destruction, and many there be which go in thereat: because straight is the gate and narrow is the way which leadeth unto life, and few there be that find it.' This stark contrast illustrates that the path to eternal life necessitates repentance and acceptance of God's righteousness, which is contrary to natural inclinations. Since most people tend to seek acceptance based on their own merits or religious endeavors, they miss the narrow way that leads to life. The narrowness of this path indicates the radical transformation required for true entrance into God's kingdom.
