Why is it said that only believers can worship God?

Answered in 1 source

Only believers can worship God because true worship requires a heart that has been regenerated by the Holy Spirit.

The belief that only believers can worship God stems from the necessity of having a relationship with Him. John 4:24 states that God is seeking true worshippers who worship Him in spirit and truth. This implies that an encounter with God through Christ, via the Holy Spirit, is essential for genuine worship. As stated in Romans 8:9, those who do not have the Spirit of Christ are not His and cannot truly honor God. Thus, authentic worship arises from the new heart given to the believer, which longs to exalt God’s name in response to His grace and salvation.
