Why is it significant that God disciplines His children?

Answered in 1 source

God's discipline is a sign of His love, meant to guide us away from sin and closer to Him.

The sermon explains that God's discipline serves a critical role in the lives of His children. As noted in Hebrews 12:6, 'For whom the Lord loves He chastens, and scourges every son whom He receives.' This discipline differentiates genuine believers from those who are not His children, as the lack of discipline signifies a lack of relationship (Hebrews 12:8). The Israelites faced consequences for their sin, and through discipline, God aimed to bring them back to Himself. The importance of this discipline lies in its function to refine our faith and draw us nearer to our heavenly Father. It is a reassurance for us that we are known and loved by God and provides the means for us to escape the reality of His ultimate judgment.
