Why is it significant that Jesus Christ is the object of the gospel?

Answered in 1 source

Jesus Christ is the sole mediator and object of our faith, and the gospel centers around His person and work.

The true gospel centers entirely on Jesus Christ and His sacrificial work. Paul declares in 1 Corinthians 2:2 that he resolved to know nothing but Jesus Christ and Him crucified. This highlights the significance of Christ in redemptive history. Only through His death and resurrection do we find atonement and reconciliation with God. Therefore, to introduce any other means of salvation outside of faith in Christ alone undermines the very essence of the gospel, which declares that Christ accomplished salvation entirely by Himself, ensuring that all who believe in Him will not be lost.
