Why is it vital to focus on Christ in sermons?

Answered in 1 source

Focusing on Christ is vital because it teaches us about our dependence on Him for salvation and spiritual growth.

Sermons that focus on Christ remind believers of their complete reliance on Him for salvation and life. As stated in Romans 1:16, the Gospel is the 'power of God unto salvation.' This means that all teachings should revolve around Christ's person and work: His life, death, resurrection, and intercession for us. When preachers emphasize Christ, they help congregants understand that their worth and identity come solely from Him. This helps believers grow in grace as they are pulled away from self-reliance and directed towards the sufficiency of Christ, who is their true source of hope and transformation.
