Why is it wrong to rely on works for salvation?

Answered in 1 source

Relying on works contradicts the essence of grace and assumes that we can earn God's favor, which is impossible.

The Scriptures teach that all efforts to establish one’s own righteousness are futile and contrary to the gospel of grace. In Romans 10:3, Paul explains that Israel sought to attain righteousness by the law but failed because they did not approach it by faith. Any reliance on works undermines Christ's sacrifice and minimizes the grace of God. True faith acknowledges that salvation is entirely by grace through Christ, who fulfilled the law on our behalf. As believers, we recognize that our only hope is in His righteousness, not in our own efforts.
