Why is Jesus being tempted by the devil necessary?

Answered in 1 source

Jesus' temptation was necessary for establishing His role as our Savior and proving His sinlessness.

The necessity of Jesus’ temptation can be understood within the framework of divine purpose and redemption. The Spirit’s leading of Jesus into the wilderness for temptation marked the beginning of His public ministry whereby He would fully engage in the battle against sin and the devil (Matthew 4:1). Jesus faced temptation not just as a test, but as an essential part of His mission to defeat Satan and sin. Through these temptations, He demonstrated His sinlessness and righteousness, which are vital for His role as the perfect sacrifice for our sins and our mediator. His victory in temptation reassures us of His ability to redeem and empower us in our struggles.
