Why is Jesus called our Captain?

Answered in 1 source

Jesus is referred to as our Captain because He is the sovereign authority over our salvation and faith.

The term 'Captain' signifies Jesus' role as the leader and protector of His people. In 1 Samuel 22, we see David becoming a captain to those who were distressed and in debt. Christ, as our Captain, is not just a title; it reflects His sovereignty and ability to save. He became our Captain when we recognized our need for salvation and our inability to pay our sin debt. Through His grace, He leads us as His followers, guiding and sustaining us through life’s challenges.
