Why is Jesus called our great high priest?

Answered in 2 sources

Jesus is called our great high priest because He uniquely mediates between God and humanity, making intercession for us after fully accomplishing our salvation.

In Hebrews 4:14, Jesus is referred to as the 'great high priest' who has passed into the heavens. This title signifies His unique role and the perfection of His priesthood. Unlike the priests of the Old Testament, Jesus does not need to offer sacrifices for His own sins; He offered Himself as the perfect sacrifice for our sin. His position at the right hand of God indicates that His work is complete and accepted by the Father. Furthermore, His ability to empathize with our weaknesses, being tempted as we are yet without sin, makes Him an understanding and compassionate mediator. This access to the Father through Christ is foundational to the believer's confidence in approaching God.
