Why is Jesus called our Joseph?

Answered in 1 source

Jesus is referred to as our Joseph because He embodies the same redeeming qualities as Joseph, providing grace and sustenance to His people.

The title 'our Joseph' points to the ways in which Jesus fulfills the role that Joseph played historically. Joseph was appointed to provide rescue during a severe famine, which serves as a type for the more significant spiritual famine faced by humanity without Christ. Jesus, like Joseph, was sent by God, chosen to reign, and tasked with delivering His people from destruction. The promise of abundant grace found in Christ parallels the abundant grain stored by Joseph, where believers can find nourishment for their souls. By coming to Christ, believers receive eternal sustenance and salvation freely, just as those who came to Joseph received grain without cost.
