Why is Jesus Christ compared to Joseph in Genesis 47?

Answered in 1 source

Joseph is a type of Christ, pointing to His role as a provider and savior.

In Genesis 47, Joseph serves as a typological figure of the Lord Jesus Christ. Just as Joseph gathered everything and delivered it to Pharaoh, Christ gathers the entirety of creation and delivers it to God the Father. Joseph’s actions in purchasing the land and the people illustrate Christ’s redemptive work in purchasing us with His blood. This parallels the New Testament teaching that Christ bought us with a price, and we are no longer our own. As Joseph provided physical sustenance during a famine, Christ provides spiritual sustenance and salvation to those who come to Him.
