Jesus is greater than Jacob because He offers living water that eternally satisfies, whereas Jacob's well only temporarily quenches physical thirst.
In the conversation with the Samaritan woman, Jesus claims superiority over Jacob by highlighting that Jacob's well could only provide momentary physical relief. Jesus, however, offers living water that satisfies spiritual thirst forever. While Jacob's well is localized and requires physical exertion to draw water, Jesus' living water is available to all who believe in Him and springs up within them as the Holy Spirit. This reflects Jesus' greater capacity to meet the deepest needs of humanity, offering access to eternal life and spiritual fulfillment as opposed to the finite sustenance Jacob’s well could provide (John 4:13-14).
