Why is Jesus' delay important in the story of Lazarus?

Answered in 1 source

Jesus' delay in coming to Lazarus was intentional to demonstrate His power over death and glorify God.

During the narrative of Lazarus, it is noted that Jesus deliberately waited before going to Bethany, allowing Lazarus to be dead for four days. This delay served two purposes: it would eliminate any doubt about Lazarus’ death, as Jewish superstition held that the spirit could linger for up to three days, and it would showcase the glory of God through the miracle that was about to unfold. Jesus intended to reveal His authority, affirming that He is indeed the source of life and that His timing is perfectly aligned with God's glorification. Thus, His decision not to rush to Lazarus’ side underscores His divine sovereignty and purpose.
