Why is Jesus referred to as a refuge in the Bible?

Answered in 1 source

Jesus is referred to as a refuge because He protects and shelters those who trust in Him from judgment and despair.

The concept of Jesus as a refuge is deeply rooted in Scripture. For instance, in Exodus 33:22, God told Moses, 'There is a rock by me; and it shall come to pass while my glory passeth by, that I will put thee in a cleft of the rock.' This imagery illustrates how Christ, our rock, serves as a refuge from God's holy judgment. By being placed in Christ, believers are protected from condemnation, as their sins were laid upon Him when He suffered the wrath of God on the cross. This divine protection assures believers that the justice of God is satisfied, allowing them to find security and solace in their relationship with Christ.
