Why is Jesus referred to as the God-man?

Answered in 1 source

Jesus is called the God-man because He is fully divine and fully human, uniquely qualified to mediate salvation for humanity.

The title 'God-man' reflects the unique and essential nature of Jesus as both fully God and fully man. In Hebrews 1:1-3, the author presents Jesus as the radiance of God's glory and the exact representation of His being, underscoring His divine nature. Simultaneously, Jesus in His earthly ministry experienced humanity — He suffered, was tempted, and identified with our struggles (Hebrews 2:17-18). This dual nature is important because only as the God-man could Jesus adequately represent humanity in His sacrificial work while also possessing the divine authority to atone for sin effectively. Therefore, understanding Jesus as the God-man is crucial for grasping the significance of His role as our Savior and High Priest.
