Why is Jesus' sacrifice essential for forgiveness?

Answered in 1 source

Jesus' sacrifice is essential because it satisfies God's justice, as forgiveness cannot be achieved without a perfect and infinite sacrifice.

The necessity of Jesus' sacrifice for forgiveness lies in God's nature as both just and merciful. Since every sin is ultimately against an infinite God, it requires an infinite payment to satisfy His justice. Jesus, being both fully God and fully man, offers the perfect sacrifice that meets these demands. Hebrews 1:3 affirms that Christ, by Himself, purged our sins, indicating the completeness of His sacrifice. Therefore, without recognizing the pivotal role of Christ's work, no one can truly receive forgiveness. It is only through His blood that we are redeemed and accepted before God.
