Why is joy so elusive for people?

Answered in 1 source

Joy is elusive for people because they often seek it in temporary, worldly pleasures rather than in God.

People find joy to be elusive because they frequently pursue it in transient and superficial means, such as material possessions, achievements, or relationships. As the preacher points out, men often strive tirelessly, hoping to attain joy, only to find it slipping away like vapor. This futile pursuit results from humanity's fallen nature, which instinctively seeks satisfaction in carnal desires instead of in the Creator, who is the true source of joy. Until individuals recognize that lasting joy can only come from a relationship with God, they will remain caught in a cycle of seeking joy in the dust of the earth, which will ultimately leave them unfulfilled.
