Why is knowing God's anger important for understanding His mercy?

Answered in 1 source

Understanding God's anger towards sin provides a deeper appreciation for His mercy and the grace given through Christ's sacrifice.

The awareness of God’s anger with sin is crucial for understanding the depth of His mercy. Isaiah acknowledges that God's anger was directed toward His people due to their sinfulness. Until one understands God's justice and the reality of His anger against sin, the concept of God's mercy remains shallow. As stated in Romans 5, only through Christ’s sacrificial death are we reconciled to God and experience the true essence of His love. It is through recognizing the gravity of our sinful nature and the just consequences of sin that we can truly appreciate the light of God's grace and the comfort it brings to our souls.
