Why is looking for mercy important in Christianity?

Answered in 1 source

Looking for mercy is vital because it recognizes our need for God's grace in salvation and eternal life.

In Jude 1:21, believers are encouraged to keep themselves in the love of God while looking for the mercy of our Lord Jesus Christ unto eternal life. This signifies that we come to God acknowledging our sin and seeking His mercy, which is foundational for salvation. Recognizing our inherent unworthiness prompts us to approach God solely reliant on His grace and mercy. In this way, mercy becomes the cornerstone of our faith, as we understand it is through His mercy we are not consumed, and it assures us of our eternal salvation.
