Why is looking to Jesus essential for salvation?

Answered in 1 source

Looking to Jesus is essential as He is the only source of true salvation for sinners.

In Isaiah 45:22, God commands, 'Look unto me, and be ye saved.' This call to look signifies the necessity of faith in Jesus Christ as the means of salvation. Just as Moses lifted the serpent in the wilderness for the Israelites to look upon and live (John 3:14-15), all who behold Christ in faith receive eternal life. The act of looking represents a turning away from self-reliance and turning to God's provision in Jesus. It is a posture of humility required for salvation because no other means can save; only Jesus is the way, the truth, and the life (John 14:6). Understanding this reinforces the assurance that salvation is found solely in Him, making looking to Jesus both a command and a necessity for eternal life.
