Why is love considered due in marriage according to the Bible?

Answered in 1 source

Love is considered due in marriage because spouses need to be loved and are called to fulfill their vows to one another.

According to 1 Corinthians 7:3-5, love is deemed due in a marriage because it satisfies the innate need of both spouses to be loved and respected. God Himself established this need in the creation of man and woman, declaring that it is not good for man to be alone. Therefore, a husband and a wife are created not just to give love but also to receive it. This mutual obligation stems from the covenant they enter into at marriage, where they vow to love one another under all circumstances. Just as Christ fulfills His promise to His church, spouses are called to honor their commitments and render the love and support that is due to one another, directly reflecting the love of Christ in their relationship.
