Why is love considered the greatest of all virtues in Christianity?

Answered in 1 source

Love is considered the greatest virtue because it embodies the nature of God and fulfills His law.

The greatness of love in Christianity is rooted in its divine origin. God is described as love (1 John 4:8), which means that love is not merely an action or feeling but an essential attribute of God’s nature. Paul emphasizes this in 1 Corinthians 13:13 when he states that faith, hope, and love remain, but the greatest of these is love. Love fulfills the entire law, as Jesus taught that loving God and one’s neighbor encompasses all commandments (Matthew 22:37-40). Therefore, love is the chief evidence of our faith and the hallmark of a true disciple of Christ.
